Another spectacular gift put online by the American Association of Sacred Music. This time it is the complete text scanned in color and made into a PDF file of the book of Gregorian chant for the "minor churches", namely the post-conciliar "Graduale simplex", the only book of chants created by explicit mandate of the Second Vatican Council (cf. Sacrosanctum Concilium 117) designed to accompany the rite of the Mass in the ordinary form. This completely scanned book contains authentic Gregorian texts and melodies, often older (and therefore simpler) than the corresponding chants adorned with melismas that are difficult to perform and are found in the Graduale Romanum. Many antiphons are also taken from the Divine Office and used, due to the identity of the text, as introits, offertories or communion chants. It is a great book, which seminarians and parish choirs should undoubtedly keep in mind and frequent, both to learn the simple chant of the ordinary of the Mass (a "Kyriale simplex" is included), and even more so for the "appropriate" chants for the various solemnities and liturgical seasons of the year. A pearl little known until now. We hope that digitalization will favor its diffusion, according to the authentic spirit of the Second Vatican Council. It can be found in the following links (84MB).
